The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reminds travellers that the international bridge between Edmundston (New Brunswick) and Madawaska (Maine) will be closed to vehicles from 1 p.m. on August 15 to 3 a.m. on August 16. The bridge will be open to pedestrian traffic and emergency vehicles only, and the CBSA will have a total of five inspection lanes open to process pedestrians.
The CBSA anticipates higher volumes of people and goods on August 15 and will have additional officers and temporary inspection lanes in place to help process extra travellers throughout the day.
Travellers are encouraged to check border wait times for area ports on the CBSA website before entering Canada. It may be worthwhile to plan to enter Canada at an alternate port of entry such as: Clair, Saint Leonard, or Grand Falls.
Organizers of the Congrès Mondial Acadien will have shuttles on the bridge for persons with limited mobility.
This will mark the first time that the international bridge between Edmundston and Madawaska has been closed to vehicles.
