The Property & Housing Division has made significant improvements to the social housing stock since the start of the current financial year, 2016/17.
Lady Margaret's, Harbour View, the Bandmaster's, Main Street, Nos.15 & 16 Piccolo Hill, Moore's Flats, Nos. 11 & 16 Botanical Gardens and No. 2 Sunny Side, have all started to take shape, as well as the current refurbishment of New Ground apartments, by RG's (Robert Henry) Contractors, and Ambledale. The refurbishment of New Ground apartments will include replacement of windows, complete rewiring, reroofing, and external redecoration, which is expected to be completed in May this year.
Other works to commence soon will be No. 20 Botanical Gardens, Ropery Field properties, Quincy Vale apartments, external redecoration of Lady Margaret Field apartments, No. 3 China Lane, and No. 19 Barracks Square.
Government landlord Housing (2)The Property & Housing Division is hoping to include some additional properties in their planned programme for the 2017/18 financial year, however this is subject to securing additional funding.
Housing Management Officer, Tracy Thomas, said:
With these projects, we can demonstrate the positive impact that can be made when we are given additional funds to tackle our long overdue backlog maintenance, and to ensure we meet the minimum needs of those living within the Island's social housing. In this period we have improved 15% of our housing stock.
We acknowledge that there is still much to do and we will continue to improve the living conditions of our social housing tenants. We are hoping to progress further with the backlog maintenance programme within the new financial year.
The Property & Housing Division would like to thank the Buildings Division & Works Team of ENRD, ProArc, Mr Glenn Owen, private contractors and all involved in making these renovations and, of course, the residents for their patience and understanding while these works are being undertaken.
